LYFE Fuel: Nutrient-Dense Plant Power
Between the election, moving into a new house, and the onset of the holidays, my (mostly) healthy lifestyle has totally fallen to the wayside.
Not one for resolutions, I’ve been eager to get back into my groove before the New Year, so I took the advice of a friend who’d recently done a 21-day program through LYFE Fuel that helped her get out of a funk.
She described the 21-Day Transformation Program as challenging without being overwhelming, which sounded like exactly what I needed. I wanted something that would help me realign with my healthier self without stressing me out.
Beyond trying to find my groove again, I’ve also been on the lookout for high-quality plant-based protein since I’ve been eating less meat and have become burnt out on beans and lentils, so I was especially interested in trying the Essentials & Recovery shakes.
Oh, and an added bonus: I learned LYFE Fuel gives back by donating 1% of sales to an environmental and social justice program of our choice, which means I’m not only investing in my health but also the greater good, so I consider that a double win.
First Impressions: Nutrient-Dense Plant Power
So many meal replacement shakes have sketchy fillers and over-hyped benefits, so I was cautiously hopeful LYFE Fuel would be different. Taking a look at the packaging, the list of nutrient-dense ingredients, including probiotics, super greens, and digestive enzymes is impressive. A side-by-side comparison of LYFE Fuel vs. other shakes I’ve tried like Ka’Chava shows that 1 scoop of the Essentials delivers more nutrition than what you get with 2 scoops of Ka’Chava. This adds up to some serious cost savings and additional health benefits.
Excited to start my healthy transformation, I leafed through my Roadmap to get a sense of what the next 21 days would look like, and in preparation for the elimination phase, I took a big gulp of wine, saying goodbye for the next three weeks.
Experience – 21 Days to Reset & Reconnect
- I find most healthy shakes taste strange, gross, or both. But these shakes are quite tasty (I’m typically a chocolate lady but the vanilla is my jam). I’ve definitely noticed a shift in my energy levels in the mornings – it’s easier to get up and go when I start the day with an Essentials shake, which has replaced my morning coffee. Although the shakes only have 110 calories, it packs 18 grams of protein, so it holds me over until lunch without a struggle. It also helps with sugar cravings during the Eliminate phase with its satisfying sweetness. I’m guessing there is some magic happening here at the cellular level because I feel more nourished, satisfied, and energized when I use the Essentials. Unlike regular protein shakes that often left me feeling full but bloated, I felt that my body was actually absorbing the nutrients in the Essentials in a meaningful and healthier way.
- Props to LYFE Fuel for opting for algae oil as their omega-3 supplement, which is much more environmentally sustainable than fish oil. That also means none of that fishy aftertaste first thing in the morning. Between clean eating and the supplements, I’ve experienced sustained mental sharpness, especially towards the end of the day when I tend to lose momentum. The high concentration of DHA that it provides helps to reduce inflammation, balance your omega ratio, and reduce inflammation.
- I know a lot of people have been singing the praises of probiotics recently, but let me just say this: they’re important, especially in partnership with prebiotics. Throughout the past 21 days, I’ve barely had any bloating and my gut’s felt generally happy, which goes a long way when you consider the brain-gut connection. Most probiotics use only a couple strains whereas the Super Probiotic uses 12 clinically-studied strains to target different parts of the gut.
Digital Transformation Guide & Resources
- I’ve been an athlete most of my life so I thought I had this all figured out, but I was impressed by LYFE Fuel’s simple and straightforward breakdown of sustainable health and nutrition. They even provide weekly shopping lists and meal plans so it’s that much easier for those of us with little downtime to plan our grocery trips. They structure the plan in a way that teaches you to eat in a way that prioritizes nutrient-dense foods using a simple and intuitive red, yellow, and green zone structure. Staying in the “green” ensures you’re providing your body with premium fuel that is best used by the body for optimal function and performance.
Cost/Value: An Investment in Sustainable Health
The total cost of the program is $149.95, which comes out to about $7/day. Considering that includes meal replacement shakes, high-quality supplements, a custom shaker bottle and loads of resources for success, I’d say that’s a pretty good deal. Plus, it’s an investment in long-term health, because the habits we build today affect us for years to come.
Takeaway: Back On Track & Feeling Good
The LYFE Fuel 21-Day program did a good job balancing inspiration and accessibility, making it a suitable package for a wide range of people from the veteran wellness practitioner looking to get back on track with their health goals, to the health newbie who wants to give clean eating a try.
If you’re looking to add more protein and nutrients to your diet, especially if you’re vegan or vegetarian, I highly recommend LYFE Fuel’s shakes – they’re the most nutrient-packed shakes I’ve seen and they taste good! Vegans especially can benefit because they have elevated levels of the vitamins & minerals that are difficult to get through a vegan diet like methylated B12, Vitamin D3, Magnesium, and it’s the only shake on the market that I’ve seen with vitamin K2.. .an essential vitamin for bone and cardiovascular health.
Being healthy while living a busy life can feel nearly impossible at times, which is why I appreciate how incremental and reasonable the program is, avoiding dreadful practices like calorie counting and weighing and measuring food. Overall, it made getting back to my healthy self enjoyable and manageable, reminding me that it feels good to feel good.
